Tamil Nadu Agricultural University or TNAU was founded in 1876 as an agriculture university in Tamil Nadu, and later TNAU campus was transferred to the city of Coimbatore in 1906. The college is affiliated to the University of Madras. According to Tamil Nadu's Department of Education, the institution is recognised by the UGC. TNAU is accredited by ICAR. Some of the TNAU facilities include a lecture hall with space for 80 people, a computer facility with ten desktop PCs, a library with a total of 1538 books, a seed testing laboratory, a germination room, a seed health lab, and a DNA fingerprinting lab.

At the end of the fourth semester, a special camp is held in the adopted communities for seven days, during which the students are required to reside in the area. TNAU is made up of 25 financed and 19 self-supported divisions that serve 14 constituent and 27 affiliated institutions.
